About:
Arjen de Leeuw is an artist, scenographer and costume designer for contemporary theatre. His artistic practise includes films, drawings and installations. De Leeuw's work often positions itself at the intersection of impossibility, destiny and limitation. Treading the line between fiction and reality, he shows us a world filled with the tragic and absurd, in which meanings can shift and new, unexpected connections are made. De Leeuw often uses nature as a mirror of our limits as human beings, playfully exploring the hubris that we can control things larger than us and questioning our sacred belief in progress.
Bio:
Arjen de Leeuw was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 1972, where he still lives and works. He graduated from the Royal Academy of the Arts in The Hague in 1995. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally at a.o. Galeria Joan Prats in Barcelona and Keith Talent Gallery in London and screened a.o. at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, the Reine Sophia Museum, Madrid, Istanbul Modern,Istanbul, the International Film Festival of Rotterdam and 25Fps, Zagreb. As a costume designer and scenographer he has worked with o.a. Marjolijn van Heemstra and Gienke Deuten/ Gouden Haas.
